July 6, 1965: “Halston Makes Visors and Wind Socks Chic for Fall” was the headline that topped this photo spread. This picture showed Halston Frowick, Bergdorf Goodman’s “boyish milliner, adjusting a back-blown white mink wind sock while a model anchors that least likely of creations — a satin chignon ornamented by white pompon.” In the accompanying article by Charlotte Curtis, Mr. Frowick the millner defined his work further: “‘A hat,’ he said philosophically, puffing on a thin cigarillo, ‘is a head-covering which is supposed to make you glamorous, exciting and more interesting than anyone else.’” Photo: Meyer Liebowitz/The New York Times
